Hi,

I am very new to the world of ADDM and I have a generic question about how can someone (like me) configure and write patterns for the following example:
1. Host should have additional attribute
2. Host should have IP endpoint
3. IP endpoint connected to network device
4. Get network device name and populate it into the host custom attribute.

Is that at all possible?
I will use ADDM 8.2 community edition in a windows network environment and will integrate with Atrium CMDB 7.6.

Kind Regards,
Ivan

Welcome to the forum Ivan.

While the community edition is useful to get an idea of what ADDM can do in a small environment what you propose will not work as the integration features are turned off as documented http://discovery.bmc.com/confluence/display/82/The+Community+Edition.

If you wish to export data to CMDB you will need a full edition.

No problem, I have the full edition already installed.

Perhaps if you could explain what problem you are trying to solve someone may be able to help. I think the reason you don’t have any advice is not that ADDM can’t do it but that the question is not understood.

Also as you stated you were a community edition user I moved the post over to the community edition forum.

Ok, it seems that this forum has some ground rules which I didn’t knew. Apologies for that.

I have both - community and full editions. What I want is to create custom attribute into the Host class in ADDM and populate it with the name of the network device which is connected to the Host. The network device is esentially a router/gateway.
Alternatively I would like to populate the IP subnet of the external (the gateway side) network.

The reason I want to do this is to label automatically the host with information on the subject of which network it is related to.
Perhaps someone will suggest to name the servers/hosts accordingly to a naming convention but I already know of this option. I would like to experiment and see if I can label them automatically.

So, any advice will do. :)

Regards,
Ivan

The only ground rule in this case is that the only support on the community edition is via the specific forum. I’ll move you back. It just seemed strange to use the limited community edition if you have access to the full product, there is no advantage to doing that and many disadvantages!

Why does it have to be an actual attribute on the Host node? You can always use a key expression in a query (if writing a raw query) or the query builder (if doing it in the UI) to present that data inline.

What do you want to do where the Host is connected to multiple network devices?

How do you finally want to use this data, just in the UI? Reports?

You shouldn’t try and alter the actual names of the Host nodes, if you do then the next time you scan with ADDM the name that is stored and the name that is discovered don’t match and that can cause ADDM to think the host has changed and create duplicates.

Hi Charles,

Thanks for the quick replies.
I figured that I can write a query, but I wanted the custom attribute to be exported to the Atrium CMDB via the Sync. I will not use the information in ADDM UI nor in ADDM reports. The hosts that I will scan are connected only to one network device (router/switch). There are no cases with multiple network devices in my environment.

Regards,
Ivan
