None of my teammates have been able to successfully perform a discovery run using the Training VA.
Is the Training VA supposed to be able to perform scans?

No the training VA is pre-configured to discover from recorded data within it. This is done so they can run standalone and without impacting your local network.

It might be a good idea to post a warning right on the Home page of the VA.
A lot of frustrating hours have been spent here.
But it’s good to know it wasn’t our fault.

The short answer is that on the discovery pages the large “Playback” flash is telling you this.

Of course the longer answer is that this is something we tend to cover in our workshop courses and may not be explicit enough as we are transitioning to a more self paced remote approach for the basic course.

If you want to play with live discovery then one of the free Community Edition VAs may be what you want as that is empty and ready to go rather than prepopulated.

For someone who has never worked with the product before and is just going through the online training “Playback” doesn’t mean anything.

I completely agree Andreas. It’s why I’ve stickied this post so others can find it easily and I’m looking at what we can do to improve things.

I like your suggestion of a note on the homepage but we may not be able to do this. We can certainly add notes to the online training pages and cover material.
