Hello group.

I would like to ask two questions about discovery results.
Once discovered the infrastructure and accessing to any host item, in the group ‘General Details’ the information given in ‘Communicating With’ shows a link with a number of hosts related.
Where could I find the kind of relationship? How ADDM defines this association?. I have not found any reference to it in the documentation.

On the other hand, BMC MidTier is installed on a separate host, but ADDM detects that MidTier is in the same host than BMC ARServer. Why? Both AR Server and MidTier are installed on W2003 Server Standard Edition 64 bits and ADDM’s slave is running on MidTier’s server.

Kind regards,
Sergio Tomillero.

The “Communicating With” list of hosts… is based on the discovered network connections. if somewhere in the list of established connections retrieved via netstat, there is an IP address that is also known to belong to a host already in foundation.. then that host is populated in the “communicating with” link. There is also a report available from the reports drop down menu for “seen but unscanned ips”… which will provide you with a list of all the IPs that have been seen connected to a given host… but have not been scanned by addm at all.

Sergio you should be aware that the ADDM Slave cannot in general discover the host it is running on. Read this existing thread for some references. Best practise is not to co-locate the ADDM Slave with anything you intend to scan.

Broadly correct Dave. The Host::ObserveredCommunication::Host relationship that this field is generated off is maintained as a side effect of Automatic Grouping, so you will not see this if the feature has been disabled. As it’s 50% an internal system relationship it’s not currently in the docs as we may change it’s behaviour as we change the way Automatic Grouping works.

Top Tip – if you hover over the field name in the UI the tooltip will tell you the underlying taxonomy details for the field
