I installed the VMplayer on my desktop, installed the Community Edition of the appliance, all went well. Got the message about VMWaretools not being installed. Did that install, rebooted the virtual appliance, and ran a baseline scan again. Under appliance baseline, this is reported:

VMwareTools Running MAJOR: VMwareTools is not installed

Why would it say it is running, but not installed?

Thanks,

Craig

How did you install VMware tools?

Did you run a script or use rpm?

There was an issue where it fails to detect it if you install using a script. This has been fixed in 8.2.

Understood, I got that answer from another user. So, it is installed and working, it is just not displayed correctly in the UI?
