The Foundation solution is usually supplied as a rack-mountable hardware appliance with all software pre-installed, including the Tideway Foundation software. Its memory, processor speed and disk configuration are specifically configured and tuned for running the Foundation application software. Tideway Foundation may also be supplied on a virtual machine. Apart from installation, all interaction with a virtual machine based appliance is identical to the hardware appliance save that the virtual machine does not contain an Internal Windows Slave. Windows discovery capabilities are fully satisfied by the external slave provided by Tideway which must be installed by the end user. When you first set up the appliance, you need to configure some settings such as network settings and name resolution. You normally only need to do this once, when the appliance is first set up. However, you should ensure these settings are correct before starting the discovery process.
