This chapter contains information on the Tideway Foundation Discovery Service, the way it discovers processes on UNIX based operating systems and Windows operating systems. It describes the various types of Windows slaves and their benefits and limitations.

Installation and configuration of the Credential Slave, the Active Directory Slave, and the Workgroup Slave and the changes that you must make to the appliance to use the slaves are detailed in the Tideway Foundation Configuration Guide.

This chapter contains the following sections:

  • Introduction to the Discovery Service provides an overview of the discovery process.
  • UNIX Discovery provides a description of the discovery UNIX based operating systems.
  • Windows Discovery provides a description of the discovery of Windows operating systems and the Windows slaves used to undertake this.
  • Credentials provides a brief description of the use of credentials in the Discovery Service.
