Table of Contents

Tideway Foundation enables you to add manually selected nodes to a group. You can use this to create groups from scratch, or modify automatically created groups. Manually created groups can overlap, contain some or all of automatically created groups.

When you have created Manual Groups you can add or remove individual or multiple nodes to or from groups. You can also include or exclude groups from your working set.

Creating Manual Groups

There are three starting points for creating groups, from a node page, from a search result page or from a Visualization.

Creating Manual Groups from a node view or search result page

To create a new group from a node view or search result page:

  1. Click the Groups icon to show the Groups Menu.

From this, select the Show group labels in lists option. You do not actually need to select this to create a group, but it makes the operations clearer in the UI. See The Groups Menu for more information.
  2. If on a search result page, select the nodes that you would like to add to the new group. You can use the select tools to help with this: (Select: All | None | Invert).
  3. Click the Actions button to show the Actions drop-down, and select the Manual Groups menu item.
  4. Enter the name of the new group into the text entry field of the Groups drop-down. Please note the $ symbol cannot be used in the Group name.

  5. Click Create Group to create the new group.
  6. The page is updated to show that the node or nodes have been added to the new group.

  7. Click away from the menu to close it.

Creating Manual Groups from a Visualization

From a visualization:

  1. Click the Groups icon to show the Groups Menu.

From this, select the Show group labels in visualizations option. You do not actually need to select this to create a group, but it makes the operations clearer in the UI. See The Groups Menu for more information.
  2. Select the nodes that you would like to add to the new group. Note that a group cannot contain a mix of different node kinds.
  3. Right click one of the selected nodes and select Manual Groups... from the popup menu.

  4. Enter the name of the new group into the text entry field of the Groups popup. Please note the $ symbol cannot be used in the Group name.

  5. Click Create Group to create the new group.
  6. The visualization is refreshed and the members of the group are highlighted with a tag showing the group name.

  7. Click away from the menu to close it.

Deleting Manual Groups

Manual groups can be deleted from Tideway Foundation using the Groups dropdown in the dynamic toolbox.

To delete a Manual Group:

  1. From the Groups dropdown select the delete icon corresponding to the group that you want to delete.
Confirmation is required unless the group is empty.
Deleting a group does not delete the nodes contained in that group. It simply removes the nodes from that group and deletes the group itself.
