You perform the initial scan without credentials (the user name and password details that enable you to log in to hosts on the network). This scan produces a list of potential hosts that can be discovered. You must choose the IP range to scan.

  1. Log on to BMC Atrium Discovery as the discovery user.
  2. Click the Discovery tab.
  3. On the Discovery page, click the Add New Run button.
  4. In the Add a New Run dialog box, enter the details for the IP addresses that you want to scan.
You can enter a single address, a range of addresses, a range using wildcards, or a comma-separated list - for example:
    172.17.1.1
    172.17.1.1-5
    172.17.1.*
    172.17.1.1
    172.17.1.2
    172.17.1.3
You can also enter a subnet (for example, 172.17.1.0/24).
  5. Enter a level for the scan.
The following scan levels are available:
    • Sweep Scan
    • Full Discovery
  6. Enter a label for the scan.
This label is used to refer to the discovery run in the interface.
  7. Click OK to add the run.
The Discovery page is refreshed to show the new run. The run starts only after you click START ALL SCANS. The START ALL SCANS button is unavailable if you have more than 30 hosts in your datastore. To re-enable scanning, you must destroy some or all of the hosts in your datastore. See Destroying data for more information.
  8. Click START ALL SCANS.
This screen illustrates a scan that has started.
When the scan is complete the Discovery Page is refreshed to show that the run has completed. You can see this by clicking the Recent Runs tab.

  9. Click STOP ALL SCANS.
